Hey guys, I was wondering, why would you need that much memory on one of these systems? What type of board, processor and software uses that much memory?

Also the Apexx 5 is grouped under the Workstation category and not the Rendering and Simulation category. So it's intended for daily usage as compared to just being a rendering machine. Any suggestions as to why?

I'm not considering getting one, I'm just curious as to why a workstation would need that much memory when it's not solely intended for rendering and simulation.

The basic configuration is 'just' 32GB.

256GB is massive overkill for most people, even for high end professional work.
It can make sense in servers, with lots of VMs running, or RAM disk based databases, but this machine wasn't really intended as a server.

I suspect some people would get 256GB either because they want the bragging rights, or just because they really have no idea what they need and bigger is better.
