I have a P8Z77-V Deluxe. It has the following ports.
2 Marvell
2 Intel 6.0
4 3.0 Ports
I seam to be advised to avoid the Marvell Ports except to use for DVD or nonessential drives.

My plan is to install onto the Intel. The Intel would be a Raid-0, maybe
My other thought is to use the Intel to cache my WD 2t Black with another WD 2t Black as a Raid-0. I'm not even sure if the performance advantage is much.

A second choice would be to use a SSD Samsung 850Pro 512 to cache a single WD 2t black, if this is even possible on the Intel 6.0 ports. But if a hard Drive can only get up to 3.0 why would I have to put this on a 6.0 Intel port. True i believe this is the only place to get the caching drive option.

Do the Intel drivers have to be installed before the operating system?
Asus support tells me that the Intel drive has to be installed before the operating system. My Intel ports are going to be a Raid-0, maybe. But if I did why the need to Install driver first. If I had installed a SSD and Hard Drive using the SSD to cache the HD I could see a possible problem. But if far as I can figure it seems I will have to create the raid-0 in windows. Especially since I don't see another way to create a Raid. For the Marvell I can get intro its setting with Crt+M. I don't even see the Intel set when logging in yet a way to get in. Might be something in BIOS that is not enabled.

A good understanding of the above will go a long way for me. Especially since I have been setting up this board for 5 weeks and ...

for the fast speed dont raid your drives use the ssd as the os drive nd the data drives. if you do was to use the intel rapid store for the hard drive what you do is turn on rapid store on in the bios. then you have to make the raid drive. the raid drive will be made by rapid store or you have to reboot and hit control "i" to boot into the intel raid tools and make a raid drive on the ssd. durning windows 7 install you have to do an advance install drivers f6 and have the mb chipset and raid drivers expanded onto a cd or usb stick. you have to let windows read and install the updated drivers if you dont do them then and it boots fine into windows then you have to install them when your in windows.

smorizio - Thanks. Would Windows 8.1 be simular?
DelroyMonjo - Read I have been doing. But all I do is come up short.

I must say I get faster response here on Tom's Hardware Asus. Still waiting for the call I left last night. And today I have been on hold for the last 45 minutes. Still waiting for a Support Tech. I have several responses here at Tom's Hardware in less time. I guess there's a message in there somewhere.
