Hey, I've got a 1 x Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus Direct Touch 4 Heatpipe Heatsink installed.

I turn my computer on, does not get to any startup or bios at all, but I notice the fan on the Heatsink is not spinning.

When I start up, it starts to spin slowly, then it stops. My computer shuts down then starts up again repeating the process.

Edit: Adding Specs to main post:

I did check the connections to make sure they were plugged in properly, I don't remember the name of where it was plugged in. There is thermal compound applied properly, I've had this build for a little over 3 years. I just dusted the system out after noticing the issue.

Specs:

1 x Intel Core i5 3570K Unlocked Quad Core Processor LGA1155 3.4GHZ Ivy Bridge 6MB Retail
1 x Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus Direct Touch 4 Heatpipe Heatsink AM2 AM3 LGA1366 LGA1155 LGA1156 120MM
1 x Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H ATX LGA1155 Z77DDR3 3PCI-E16 3PCI-E1 HDMI CrossFireX/SLI SATA3 USB3.0 Motherboard
1 x Mushkin Enhanced Blackline Frostbyte PC3-12800 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1600 9-9-9-24 1.5V Dual Channel Memory
1 x Corsair Carbide Series 300R Black Gaming Case ATX 3X5.25 4X3.5 Front USB Audio No PSU
1 x Seasonic M12II 620W EPS12V 20/24PIN ATX PFC 80+ Bronze Modular 6PIN PCI-E 120MM Fan Power Supply PSU

What can I do?

Solution
Okay so this might be something but with my Asus X99 D, the RAM caused my PC to do this as it was reclocking itself. Is there a button next to the RAM in which you can press?

First, check the fan connector and make sure it is plugged in correctly and on the CPU header of the motherboard. My best guess is that the fan is plugged in to a different header or it is plugged in to the right header but with something wrong with how it is plugged in.

Of course, it is also valid to ask if you used thermal compound - but the fan would still spin if you didn't - the computer would be very unhappy, though. Ideally you would list all of the hardware specs of the system (like SR-71 suggested).

Is this a new build or did anything change recently (did you swap from a different CPU cooler)? Knowing the motherboard make and model would help as well.

Well, I switched the fan plugin to a different header, and the fan works fine. So it seems it could be the Heatsink then? But when I plug it back into the cpufan header the fan doesn't work. I plugged a different fan into the cpufan header and that fan works, but it only uses 3 of the 4 prongs on the header.

When I switched headers, all fans worked fine, but my computer still only turned on for about 5 seconds then turned off, restarted itself and turned off again, repeating over and over.

I've had this system for 2.5 years, have not changed anything since I got it

I'm so confused.

Ok. So I just switched the slots that the ram were in, now the fan are working, it's not on a cycle of shutting off and restarting.

Now I have no display showing... One thing after the other. I never changed anything else.

Oh my goodness.

Ok, well I got the display working… haha.

Now, is there anything I should look into so this doesn't happen again? Do I need to go into the bios or do some system check or anything?

There's been a couple times when I restart that it says it needs to do a diskcheck. Don't know if that has anything to do with it?

Thank you all for your help. =)

Ah so it was my idea... Yeah it happened with me and I thought my board was broke tbh. I then noticed the error code at the bottom and I read it and saw the XMP didnt match and that So i clicked the button till the system powered off and then it did the short bursts of activity and went into the BIOS in which I could clock it to its actual clockspeed (my RAM is at 3000Mhz). It was good to know that I fixed the problem!
