I am working on a Windows Server 2003, I am trying to reserve an IP address in DHCP. But when I right click the device I would like to reserve there is no option in the menu. I tried highlighting the device and clicking the action menu from the top and still have no "add to reservation" I tried restarting the DHCP server service no luck. I tried rebooting the server no luck. I also tried to reserve something else from the DHCP pool and I can't reserve anything. I tried Google but I could not find anything.

Solution

Yes. Create a reservation with the MAC of the address of the laptop and the IP address that you wish to use (one within the scope that you have defined) and the computer with that MAC should always pick up the same IP address.

To ss202sl, I would love to just set the IP static I always prefer doing that. But this is a laptop that during the day moves about the building, has no wired drop to the office so he uses wifi, and on occasion takes the laptop offsite.

MhHenryB, that is correct. The server already has a static IP. I did come across that website but will that work if I assign the laptops MAC address to a static IP I would like to use?
