is the gpu in a processor used while using a graphics card or is the cpu side the major factor?

Do you have a graphics card right now? I am not sure based on the wording whether or not you have one, if you do, what is it, and what is your processor? I cant really decide on anything with out knowing what is in question.

If you cpu has an intergrated grapgics card and you add a gpu to your system(pcie 16x) the intergrated graphics will have no impact on anything, so the anwser to your question would be no, the intergrated graphics in a procesor does not matter at all if you are using a graphics card in your computer.
what does matter is how fast the cpu is so it dosent bottleneck your graphics card in games so if you are buying a gaming cpu any i5 should be fine the i5 4690k is great for gaming
