I just made my first ethernet cable for home use and right after i finished i saw that i hadn't fully pushed the cable in to the RJ45 connector and i could see about 2mm of wires sticking out between the connector and the cable jacket. So what i am wondering is, will this cause disturbances that i will notice when using my computer at home. Or is it fine and sticking the cable into the connector is just to make it more durable?

Solution
As long as all of the wires have made a good connection, a bit of bare wire beyond the end of the connector is not an issue unless something inadvertently connects two or more of them, which seems unlikely.

Admirable
As long as the wires are connected to the contacts in the plug, and are not able to touch each other, it won't matter. Try it and see if it works.

If in doubt just cut the plug off and start over. Sticking the cable into the connector is to ensure a connection rather than to affect durability.
