Just put together a build with an MSI z87m Gaming motherboard. The HDD in question isnt showing up in bios like my SSD is. I have windows and a few things installed on the ssd but and planned on using the HDD for most of my games and what not. Im pretty sure the hdd is getting power because when i boot up the system i can hear it kinda clicking for about a solid minute but cant seem to get my bios to even recognize it's in there. I've tried switching serial ata cables but that doesnt seem to help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Is the hard disk new? If not, does it have those jumpers? If it does have and its config is regularly set for slave, I'd test it in another PC... my guess is it's faulty.

"clicking for a solid minute" makes me a bit nervous as it might indicate that the drive is bad. Was this drive in use prior to this build? How old is the drive? Make/Model? Just curious mostly but it might help.
You mentioned using different cables. Have you tried a different channel on your MOBO?

Are you using ACHI/IDE/RAID in the MOBO BIOS setting? For the SSD it should be ACHI. Possible MOBO drivers aren't up-to-date or installed?

Hey there, Xanderz26!

I'd suggest to check in with your motherboard manufacturer's website and find your mobo model, then see if you have the latest BIOS and drivers updates, as dmitche3 mentioned.
Another thing you could try is resetting BIOS by reseating the CMOS battery on your mobo. Here are some other ways to do that: http://www.wikihow.com/Reset-Your-BIOS
I'd also recommend plugging the HDD in another computer and see if it will behave the same way. This way we can determine whether the fault is in the drive itself or on some other component.

Keep us posted! :)

In this case, I strongly recommend getting in touch with the HDD manufacturer's tech support and RMA it.
As @pcperfpros mentioned the clicking is an indication that the drive has physical damage, which unfortunately you cannot fix by yourself. So while the drive is still within the warranty period, you should be able to get a replacement from the manufacturer/retailer.

Good luck! :)
