Hi, I have a a thumb drive and an external hard drive. I have files in folders in both devices. Not necessarily the same files and folders.

Today I accessed a folder in my thumb drive by double clicking to see what files I have stored. I did not open any files. Then I went back to the folder level to check the whether the "Date Modified" column reflected today's date. The date modified column had the same date when the folder was created which was before today's date. This is what I expected.

When I did the same exact exercise in my external hard drive, I observed that the Date Modified changed to today's date. I did not expect this and do not want this. I want the date to remain the same as the creation date.

1) Why would the external hard disk behave differently from a thumb drive?

2) How can I change the Date Modified of the folder in the external hard drive back to the "Date created" date?

I hope I was able to explain my problem. Btw I am using Windows XP.

Thanks for your help!

As mentioned in my post above, the folder was only opened and closed. The folder or files were not changed in any way.
