Hello TomsHardware!

I currently have 2 hard drives in my pc. Both serve good, main 2tb drive is for OS/games (Not best config but first desktop coming from a laptop) and a second 500gb drive for recording videos. Both Toshibas

I am able to record 1080p@30fps (When doing 1080p@60, reach around 45 - 50 write in dxtory) and 720@60fps on this current recording drive.

I was looking into getting another hard drive for my pc to be used as either a recording drive or a just an extra drive for other needs, depending if it can surpass my current recording drives performance. - http://gyazo.com/74d58554ff3eda1588b86f99d5a89d3f

Now what I want to know, is the WD black worth the extra 20$ on Newegg for its performance?
Would either of theses drives perform better than my current recording drive?
And finally, based on all of this, what should I get?

Thanks for the help!,
Ken

Hey KENDAWG2000. Usually the WD Blue drive will do just nicely enough with gaming while streaming/recording, but if you want to get the best performance out of your drive so that you could push up the FPS of the video/stream, then I'd say that the WD Black drive is the right choice here. It has a lot of features which would fit nicely with your recording requirements, such as
WD Black features a new High Resolution Controller (HRC) with an improved architectural design, resulting in increased data precision across the hard drive. This translates to superior responsiveness evolving your high definition world
and it also has a dual processor which greatly boosts its performance. And on top of that it comes with a 5-year limited...

Ken, I cannot comment on the recording speeds, but can tell you that WD Blacks are a far better quality than WD Blues. I have been replacing hard drives for years, and only use WD Blacks. WD Greens=Cheap. WD Blues=Decent. WD Blacks=Best Quality. Definitely worth the extra $20.

You can take a closer look at its features here: WD Black

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions.
