Joining two 4gb ram, will make a 8gb ram ?

i have a 4 GB ram installed in my PC. But i need to make my ram 8 GB . so if i buy another ram and install it in my PC will it work like a single 8 GB ram or i need to buy a separate 8 GB ram .
please answer soon !!?

Yes, adding a 4GB RAM stick will work fine and will give you 8GB of RAM. Ideally you will buy a stick identical (same make and model) to the existing one. Presumably you are running a 64-bit operating system?

Main reasons to use 2 * 4 GB vs. 1 * 8 GB is if RAM goes badly and you have only one RAM then your PC is useless. Much harder to troubleshoot RAM problems with only one stick or single RAM. If you have 2*4 GB and one of the RAM goes bad, then at least you can run on the other RAM.
