Hello. I just purchased the EU Wales scenery expansion for Flight Simulator X (not the steam edition) and have been unable to install the expansion for the reasons I will state later on. I bought the expansion today (18/02/2015) and downloaded it on google chrome from the flightsimstore. I paid £20.61 and the download completed approximately 1 hour later. I opened the .exe inside the .zip file and attempted to extract the files as prompted. However I received the error message as follows:

"An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error search code to search for help with this problem.

Error 0x80004005: Unspecified error"

However I used WinRAR to extract the files to a temporary folder on my desktop but then I received an error telling me there was a checksum error for each file (except for the .exe files). However I allowed WinRAR to extract the "broken files" and they eventually extracted to a temporary folder. I tried to run the .exe again and the installer failed the integrity check and showed above as common causes being an "Incomplete download or damaged media". However I then downloaded the file again and repeated the process without antivirus or firewall running but the same problem occurred. However I followed the link I was recommended by the installer and managed to launch the installer using "cmd" by putting the file path of the installer and then putting "/NCRC" after it and the installer then attempted to unpack the files but I was then told that the installer was corrupted and could not continue. I couldn't see any reason as to why it would be corrupt unless the file supplied was faulty which I doubt because flightsimstore are a reputable dealer. Hence I am here and hoping to pick the brains of those much more knowledgeable than I am! I am running windows 8.1 64-bit and would really appreciate all the support you guys can give me :) Thank you for your time :)

Error code 0x80004005

This problem may occur if a file that the Windows Product Activation (WPA) requires is damaged or missing. This behavior occurs if one or both of the following conditions are true:
A third-party backup utility or an antivirus program interferes with the installation of Windows XP.
A file that WPA requires is manually modified.
Whech version of Windows are you running? Are you sure that it is activated correctly?

Hey man. Sorry for the late reply. I am running Windows 8.1 64 bit and I paid for it activated it with product key successfully about a year ago. Thank you :) Update: When I extract in 7-Zip, I am told that there is a CRC error and that the file is broken

I think you need to contact FlightSimStore and explain the situation. It's not beyond the bounds of possibility that their file is corrupt or they may be able to supply the file using some other medium. In the end, if it still doesn't work you should expect to get a refund.

Yeah I have already tried to contact them. I sent 2 emails yesterday asking for support with helping to fix the problem. I spent 6 or 7 more hours trying to fix the problem and then asked for a refund but I still have no reply. I am thinking that I have lost £20 unfortunately. Could I ask someone else to download the file from my account and then run it to see if it works?

Companies sometimes take a while to respond to emails. Have you tried their Live Chat support (a bit tricky because of the time difference)? Or the forums of the publisher of the software: https://www.fullterrain.com/support

It may take a while, but you shouldn't have lost any money.

PS. You're not by any chance using IDM to do the download are you? I've seen a post suggesting that this can corrupt files and give this error message. I've also seen another post with a similar problem and it turned out that the original file being supplied was corrupted, so it does happen. Persevere and you should be OK in the end. Orbx's forums seem to be the best place to get results.

I used IDM once because I was recommended to by an OrbX forum and the website itself but I have tried to it with and without using IDM and no it didn't work. I extremely suspicious that this is a corrupt download now as I just tried it on 2 other machines running windows 7 and the same error occurred. I spent an 1 hour and a half on their live chat but no response was given. I will eagerly await their response and will message fullterrain.com to get my money back if they cannot provide a solution. However the flightsimstore said that they don't offer refunds for downloaded products which I guess means I have lost the money? :( Hopefully they will see that their product is faulty and refund it.

Ok thank you for the guidance and this is the one website I can always rely on for tech support :) Unlike other websites needless to say.. If you are interested this is the thread I posted on the OrbX forums. http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/92982-i-get-error-0x80004005-when-extracting-zip-file-for-eu-wales-scenery/
