Hi there!,

I'm new to this site so i hope i can get a little help :)

I am trying to dive into the realm of Overclocking. I currently have a sapphire R9 280 Dual x GPU. And i have been trying to O.C it for a bit and it doesn't seem to budge. Finally i see on the GPU that there is a blue button. When i press that and the blue light turns off the GPU rises to the MHz i set it for. Is this normal for the...I think its the duel bios button...to stop the GPU from Overclocking?

Also when doing the slightest O.C. and after running 3D Mark...my main screen starts flashing and distorted..but not my secondary screen.

Thank you for your help :)

firsltly post your full specs. your gpu does have dual bios. use gpu z to determine which one you are using. bios 1 matches the default gpu specs as shown in gpuz. bios 2 offers higher clocks and a more aggressive gpu fan profile and the ability to overclock.

When i press that and the blue light turns off the GPU rises to the MHz i set it for

having the ability to overclock doesnt mean you can increse clock speeds as much as you want! try again slowly using steps of 25MHz. there is a point your gpu will need additionally voltage for the overclocking to be stable. use a stress testing software like furmark or occt to test stability and psu ability. also 3dmark or heaven benchmarks alongside with gaming for the drivers(make sure you have the lattest ones installed) stability and performance.

I suggest overclocking through CCC which is very easy or through SapphireTrixx ultility.

Running dual monitors or above or higher than 60hz amd gpu run with memory clock maxed out resulting in slightly higher idle temps! also overclocking gpu memory and having dual monitors, would result in artifacting or trying running accelerated youtube videos.to fix it either dissable video hardware acceleration or try seting your 2D memory clock speed to match your 3D memory clock speed i would suggest though to only overclock gpu core clock as R9 280 has an already very wide memory bandwidth and wont benefit much from overclocking with gaming! cheers!

Would a program like aida64 work also?

600w, will be better but from a better quality unit. the CX corsair is just an office oriented psu not to be stressed in such ways.!
you have very good overclocking potential on both cpu and gpu. if you would like to explore the limits of your system you better get a higher W and higher quality psu.!

any unit from tiers 1 , 2a , 2b should be prefered!

Any reference for this claim? According to Sapphire docs, BIOS 1 is Legacy and BIOS 2 is UEFI. I haven't found any info anywhere else that confirm that BIOS are different regarding clock speeds and fan profiles.

http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/zardon/sapphire-hd7970-overclock-edition-dual-x-review/

''The default ‘first’ setting offers a very modest 25mhz overclock on the core, while the memory is overclocked from 1,375mhz to 1,425 mhz. The ‘second’ setting offers additional overclock speeds with a more aggressive fan profile, increasing the core speed to 1ghz, and the memory to 1,450mhz''

although R9 280 is a rebranded 7950 and not 7970 as a dual x oc product most probably shares the same features. as for the kitguru review i can confirm it as i own the Sapphire 7970 Dual x OC gpu
