I think this is probably a dumb question but for a long time I've wanted to upgrade my 7850 2GB for something better and I'd just want to know how big of an performance increase i would get with a gtx 960 2 GB OC or would it decrease the performance.
Thanks in advance!

Solution
Yes it would be an improvement. I would say the highest you would want to go with that chip would be the GTX960 or the r9 280. Anything higher would be bottlenecked pretty bad. Well in games that are heavily CPU bound anyway.

My PHII x6 at 4.0ghz bottlenecked one 7970 in certain games so I don't think the r9 290 would be a good match honestly. That's why I recommended the GTX960 or r9 280. Check this out: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/piledriver-k10-cpu-overclocking,3584-10.html The benches here used a HD7970(aka 280x)

I really don't see him getting a drastic improvement over his 7850 yes there is going to be some with his setup.. But I belive if he had a I 5 4690k such AS ours he would see a lot of improvement with a 280 or 960 ... Hes about at the end of the stick with his system how much more can he upgrade? I don't see any system specs...

I will upgrade to a i5 or fx 8350 when i get the money

Both your current CPU and GPU are pretty decent. If you plan to upgrade both eventually then don't worry about bottleneck as it will only be a temporary issue.
