My Computer is Not Recognizing my Western Digital Blue HDD

I see that my optical drive is shown as being hooked up and my SSD but my WD Blue HDD is not show as being apart of the system. It is all hooked up and plugged in and not sure what the problem is. What am I doing wrong?

Start --> Right Click on Computer --> Manage

Left side, select Disk Management

Do you see it listed there?

If so, you need to format it and assign it a letter. Then it will show up.

I do see it there. It says it's unallocated so it looks like you are right on the money.

Follow up question, what is the difference between MBR and GPT partitions? Which one should I use. It looks like the MBR one is the one to go with.

Use MBR. GPT is for HDDs (if I'm not mistaken) 4TB and larger.

I think it's some motherboards, but nowadays, they're all pretty much capable of recognizing it.

Well I did the MBR install but the HDD still isn't showing up for reason.

It is a Western Digital Blue 1TB and MOBO is a Z97 A ASUS.

You did a quick format through disk management? When did it ask you about MBR? It should ask if you want NTFS or FAT32, not MBR. Go to disk management and perform a quick format on the drive. Assign it a letter. Use NTFS file system. That should be all you need to do.

Gotcha. I will try and mess around with it when I get home tonight and see what I can come up. See if there is a different way to format it.
