Approximate Purchase Date: e.g.: In the next few weeks.

Budget Range: As close to 1k as we can get,

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming.

Are you buying a monitor: Yes, need to be 24' good at FPS

Parts to Upgrade: need em all but keyboard and mouse. The case needs to be for a grown up. Clean look with room for a long GPU.

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com, best buy will price match.

Location: US.

Parts Preferences: I would like a gtx 970 1st or a 290x. I am ok with AMD cpu that will allow the 970 or 290x to do its thing.

Overclocking: Maybe, not now tho.

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe, need a mobo and psu that will allow me to do so if I get a 970. No if build has a 290x.

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080,

Currently I was thinking of something like this, but I would love to get some feedback!! Its been 3 years from my last build.

Solution
A AMD core performs about the same as an intel core when the clockspeed is 1,5 times higher. The clockspeed of the 4440 is 3.1 GHz, so if you want the 8320 to perform the same you would have to overclock it to 4.6 GHz. The amount of cores is comparable, because the 8320 only has 4 FPU's (1 per module of two cores) while the 4440 has one for every core, so also 4. Since games are mostly floating point calculations, this matters quite a bit. (ref. profquast).

I think Fx-8320 is great even for games but require both good (sometimes expensive) motherboard and cpu cooler; overclock know-how; a lot of (fun) work and some luck to get a high oc-able chip.

Finally I recommended a i5 + R9 290 because your budget is only $1k and i thought you...
imho you should consider this strong $1k gaming build:

That is not too bad. I see that you dropped down in gpu for some more cpu. I play BF3, ARMA 3/Epoch, and open sand box games. I know that the Intel Cpu is better but I am not sure the if I'd trade the step down to the 290 to get one. Not sure. But this seems like a solid build. Maybe I am not thinking of a balanced build.

Yes. It's worse than the lowest i3 in single and dual core performance and only trumps the Hyperthreaded cores in rare scenarios. I hope you don't think a single video game is an actual benchmark for a CPU.

I don't. At the same time I can tell that I can't tell if there is an i7 or a FX8xxx cpu in that video and a lot of other videos I view. I don't think I would be about to notice an i3 vs FX8xxx CPU in use. Bench stuff...sure...I can see the bars and numbers, but in game... I was thinking of the FX b/c of the cheaper Mobo and maybe the idea that games would move to 4 plus cores soon. That would let the FX chip age a bit better.

Anyhow, the h97 mobo kind of kill the idea of the FX chip and the i3. It helps me get in range of the i5. Thats why I love this site and the ppl here!

If you dont need OS surelly you should buy a i5 + 4GB R9 290x or maybe even a "3.5GB" GTX970.
