I was just wondering when windows 10 comes out if it will also upgrade the type of windows that you have. I have windows 7 ultimate and I was curious if when I get the free upgrade within the first year if I would get windows 10 ultimate. Any help would be great because I tried calling a tech support for microsoft but the guy wanted my phone number and i didnt want to give him my phone number so I just hung up. ;D

I don't think we yet know whether Windows 10 will follow the same model as previous versions of Windows with Home, Professional, Ultimate, etc. versions. As it is going to be a free upgrade they may decide to rationalize it and just have the one edition. But, if they do have separate editions I would imagine that the update would be like for like. As it's not really been fully announced yet I guess the guy from Microsoft wanted to get an answer from someone else, rather than giving you b/s, and then phone you back with that answer.

It seems a bit rude to just hang up on someone that you are asking to help you - it's not as if phone numbers are big secrets.

Windows went to 2 versions with Windows 8 (Home Premium and Pro ) . I imagine Ultimate will upgrade to PRO.

Yes, your version of Windows will be upgraded to the same version level you had before.

Example...

You have Windows 7 Home...you'll get Windows 10 Home

You Have Windows 7 Ultimate...you'll get Windows10 Pro (there is no Ultimate version in 10)

You obviously have an illegal copy of windows if you cannot even give your phone number. EVERY single tech support agency in the world is going to ask for your phone number for two reason. First so they can have a call back number in case the call disconnects. Second so they can update your record in their customer support database. Enjoy your illegal copy of windows bro.

Can we just dispense with the flames? Please stay on the subject. Privacy is a big issue which not the subject of this query.

I have windows 7 ultimate and in spite of the "offer", it says that my CPU is not supported. I have an old dell workstation precision 670 with dual xeon cpus. Whether or not your cpu is supported may be a criterion for windows 10 support.
