Is the Samsung 850 EVO faster than the Samsung 840 EVO 120gb? What's the difference?

The 850s are cheaper.

The 850 is a better choice. the 840 Evos are having some long term slow down issues. Avoid the problem by going with the newer 850. And yes the 850 is a bit faster.

Even after the fix it seems to be happening again for some people. I really should bench my drive and see if it's slowing again.

You can't see the problem with normal benchmarks, since they write fresh data to test performance. The problem only affects old files.
