I just finished building a computer with these specs

i5 4690k
pny geforce gtx 970
8GB of ddr3 1600MHz corsair vengeance
1TB SSHD
GIGABYTE GA-z97mx motherboard
400w evga psu 80+ bronze
corsair 240 air case

Ive tryed to install ubuntu from a flash drive that I setup on my computer( i know its not the flash drive because Ive used it on my laptop to install ubuntu) and when I click install ubuntu(or any other option) in the boot menu(grub) it gets a black screen and stays like that, does any1 know why?

Solution
pny geforce gtx 970

Most linux distrobutions come out of the box with poor support for very new Nvidia graphics cards.
1)Disable intel graphics in your BIOS/EFI
2)Boot into Ubuntu with the kernel option 'nomodeset' Then install the proprietary 'close source' drivers from Nvidia. Reboot normally.

how do I do this on a gigabyte mobo and instead of disabling the gpu can't I just take it out?

the Intel GPU is built into you CPU. So no you cannot just take it out.

Consult your motherboard manual on how to get into BIOS/UEFI. Immediately after booting usually you will press a function button [F1-F12] or [ESC] or [DEL]
Not sure if this step is even necessary, but have seen a few times where the intel gpu caused problems with nvidia gpu also installed. Best just to disable since you won't be using it at all.
