I have just built my pc, I haven't had a chance to try and start it yet but I will do later. My copy of windows will not come until tomorrow but I do plan on setting my bios up and what not first.

When I first boot it up, do I actually have to adjust any settings in the bios, like clock speeds, ram speeds, voltages, or will be default 'auto' settings be suffice. I don't plan on Overclocking, atleast not yet. I'm asking this as a friend said the auto setting can make your pc unstable, whereas putting the correct required figures in will make it better/more stable, is this true?

Running;

i7 4790k. 4.0ghz
Z97 msi gaming 7
Corsair vengeance 1600. CAS 9 (16gb)
Corsair 650W PSU

Gpu comes Monday but I want to set the pc up first, and I will be sli'ing it in months to come

Thanks

For the most part auto should be fine. I would set XMP profiles on your ram though because the motherboard may under volt it and by setting the XMP profile then you will have your memory clock and ram voltages set to manufacture tested profile. Assuming your RAM supports XMP profiles.

What exactly are XMP profiles? Could you elaborate a bit more please, I'm very new to this.

And okay then, is that OC genie actually any good? What will it exactly change? And would it void warrantys?

OC genie is great for learning to overclock as it sets a clock speed and voltages and done its stable as its already gone through extreme testing. and XMP stands for Extreme Memory Profile its pretty much OC genie but for ram sets clock speeds voltages and timings

I guarantee 500% that the motherboard will have the correct settings for your ram and even if it doesn't you can always overclock it
as for warranties MSI motherboards fully cover OC genie and overclocking so if overclocking damages your board (highly unlikely) its covered and all intel K series CPU's come with a warranty for overclocking.
