Regain space in SSD after defragging

I'm going to be honest, I defragged my SSD and it just used up a lot of my free space. I didn't expected to happen, then I looked it up and discovered that it is a huge no no. I found the trim functions and the command to enable it however I've seen no improvement. Will format and reinstall the OS resolve the issue? Is there an easier way to solve this? And how great is the extent of the damage?

I run Win7 and the SSD is a Samsung 840 EVO 250GB.

don't you have samsung magician? Also if you want to start from scratch there's a Samsung Boot secure erase you can burn.

I've done the secure erase works as it should

Before you do anything... try going into Folder Options and select option to show hidden folders. I once had a program create 100GB Files on my SSD in a few minutes... I found the rogue file in my root directory.

Thanks for the help. I've backed up all my data, and used a pendrive to write on the boot program. Everything is fine now.

Pretty much returns it to factory state. No more defrag even when you see how fragmented it is that's normal for even wear
