For quite a while now I have noticed my secondary drive, a 1tb Western Digital Blue being slow when moving files to the primary disk. At first I thought it was an issue transferring. Yesterday I installed Windows on this disk and today it won't even boot, stating a corrupt registry. Now back on my main Windows install I cannot save files to the secondary hard drive and some files will not open. When I tried to download something to the drive an "I/O error" was returned.

I ran HDtune and it says the drive is healthy. I am unsure of what type of issue this is and whether I need a new hard drive. Any advice is appreciated.

Hey cdef. I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with your drive. I'd recommend that you try to access the drive via Linux Live CD/USB to get any important data you may have on it or try some of the data recovery options from this thread: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html
Then, I'd suggest that you run a chkdsk on the drive: start menu -> run -> type in cmd and press enter -> type in chkdsk /f /r x: (where "x" is the letter of the drive you wish to check) and press enter again.

Hope that helps. Let me know how everything goes.

Chkdsk is currently in progress.

When I mentioned the drive being slow at copying files, it is quite odd as the first few seconds is usually fast before rapidly getting slower and slower until any sort of file takes hours. This happens with all types of files. I believe it has been like this to some extent since new however has recently become worse. As it was not my main drive I didn't notice this. Do you know what the cause of this could be and whether there is any solution avaialable?
