Will windows 8.1 be faster or slower on windows 7 motherboard?

I'm going to build a pc soon. i'm on a tight budget so i decided to go with Gigabyte GA 78lmt-usb3 as my motherboard. i've read all the specs and it doesn't say anything about windows 8/8.1 support. but it does say that it's windows 7 ready. i found out that i can still install windows 8.1 as long as i install windows 7 first then update the driver to support 8.1. but will it make my pc slower or faster?

marginally faster in my experience. were talking single digits if any performance improvements. (benched on a Cor2Duo 2.1GHz, 4GB DDR2, GeForce 105m, 5400 RPM 320GB HDD) also if the hardware was windows Vista ready, it seems to work just fine in Windows 8 in my experience.

one big difference though, if your not rocking a SSD, Windows 8.x boots a lot faster than Windows 7.

If you have a UEFI BIOS, it will boot significantly faster than Windows 7. It loads a bit faster, it's smaller on the disk and has less overhead.

If the board doesn't specifically say Windows 8 support, I'd actually recommend you stay with 7. I find hardware performs best on its recommend operating system.

The update to 10 will be free, anyway.
