Hello I was wondering which mother board I should get, the z87 has more reviews in terms of quality and reliability but the z97 can use more updated CPUs like the famous i7 4790k without flashing the bios, the z87 can house the i7 however there is no garentee which bios the board will be shipped in so using the 4790k in a z87 board is not full proof as far as I'm concerned, so my question is should I get the z87 and use an i5 4670k, or save up a bit more cache lol, and buy the z97 board along with the Intel core i7 4790k, keep in mind the boards them selves are the asus heros, the z97 being the vii and the z87 being the vi

Solution
I've got both (in sig) the Z97 is far better, it runs cooler, OCs better (and with less voltage to the CPU, handles DRAM better, the BIOS is improved.....SR-71, here in the forums has had both Hero's also

z97 motherboards features a better oc experience, it looks really nice and it's much newer. It has all the features a beefy pc should have. It has enough ports for all your needs too.

I think the z97 would be more recommended by others rather than the z87

Actually my mushkins are in my old i7 build ( i7 930 12GBB mushkin redline 1600mhz cas 6) . I picked up 32GB g skill 1600 cas 10 ( overclocked to 2000 cas 10 ) used for $175. couldn't' pass that up lol. esp with my ramcache and ramdrive ( then I have my old 128GB C300 as a level 2 cache )

Hero VI Z87 (about $180) + i7 4770k (about $295-300)
Hero VII Z97 (about $205-215) + i7 4790k (about $305-315)

That's the only one right way to buy them, of course , if you want good performance and that rig last longer without further upgrades. If you already have z87, there is no point to upgrade to z97. Same with CPU's. No point to go from 4770k to 4790k. I bought mine in summer 2013. I got 87 and 4770k. Still runs pretty good. Combo 97+4790k of course has some advantage , but not significant. In 97 they made some improvemets on overclocking, heating and some other minor stuff. But frankly speaking I haven't notice any significant difference in performance between those two combos. So, if you are buying new rig, then definitely , I'd suggest you to get later version/combo z97+4790k
