First off, I'm a noob. I recently upgraded to a 600w power supply and upgraded my graphics card (or so i thought) on my HP p6-2133w. I upgraded with e-geforce 8600 gts that i had laying around. It originally had an on board AMD Radeon HD 6530HD. Video looks so much better, but the game freezes and i can hardly even move in game. And yes, i unistalled the old drivers and downloaded the new ones from nvidia for the new card, and enabled the pci slot in bios.I know this Hp is certainlly no gaming pc, but I was trying to get what i could out of it. My question is, is there a better card that i could get for improvement or would i just be wasting money on this pc, being that i only have a 2.20 ghz processor(guessing that's whats's holding me back) ?

Solution
Oh yeah, you're good. Go for the 750ti, if you can. Unfortunately, any video card higher than that will be limited by your CPU, but the 750ti will work well. You'll be happy with the performance.
512MB of video ram is very low, I think that may explain the freezes, perhaps getting a better card is a good idea. I would recommend a R9 270 if it will fit in your case, as it is very powerful for its price. If it wont fit then perhaps a 750 ti or a 260x
