I was having trouble with my old modem randomly dropping its wifi connection down from a solid 50mbps to single digit mbps, so I took it in to comcast and a got a new router (SMCD3GNV). Got home and set it up and did a speedtest and I am only getting 11-30mbps down it varies for whatever reason. With my old router I got 48-50mbps, and I pay for a 50mbps plan from comcast. Is this router just not very good? Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

SMCD3GNV
Key Features:
DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem
The SMCD3GNV includes a 4x4 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem capable of
speeds up to 300Mbps downstream and 120Mbps upstream

If you are on wireless you might not have the signal strength for the bandwidth, or the channel you are on is saturated. If you can set the channel on that thing I would give that a try.

You have to remember you are technically sharing with your neighbors on cable as well. Comcast guarantees speeds up to 50Mbps, they don't have give that speed to you 100% of the time.

Well I pay for 50, I got just about 50 on wireless with my last modem for years. I get almost 60 when plugged into the modem. The only device on it is my laptop, I know nothing about setting channels but I'll do some research. Thanks for the advice!
