Hello i was wondering if i should upgrade my cpu first or my gpu and what one would make more of the difference within games. At the moment in some games i get hits of frames from 60 to 30-40 and i can only afford to upgrade one at a time.

The cpu i was looking at was the fx-8350 or something around that price range.
The gpu i was looking at was the r9-270x or something around that price range.
Thanks in advance and also im in the UK.

Neither would be a real upgrade, the 270x is only 1 tier ahead of your current GPU. Get a good cooler and OC both your fx6300 and 7850 and see if you get improvements. If you're on windows 7 unpark your cores too.

Get an r9 290 for not much money these days and be able to play most stuff on ultra. Or gtx 970 although it's more expensive but uses much less power.

Neither of those are a real upgrade. The FX-6300 is still a very respectable processor. You will need to switch sockets before you can get an upgrade worth spending money on. So that's out of your budget range.

You will want to upgrade your graphics card, but you will need a bigger budget to see any substantial improvement. At least $200 for a 960/R9 290. Preferably $300 for a 970. Adjust prices for local versions.

You could improve your CPU with a better cooler, the 6300 is a very nice overclocker.

Your CPU was surely weaker than an FX-6300 if it was causing bottlenecking. I use an FX-6100 and it still pulls it's weight on a 970 (Which is about as powerful as 2 R9 270X)

You are correct, I'm just talking from experience, really depends if the dude can overclock or not, current card isn't too bad though

Better idea; spend a bit on a decent cooler to OC the FX-6300 and save money for an upgrade that's more worthwhile.

The FX-8350 is only marginally ahead of the FX-6300, and the R9 270X is only marginally ahead of the HD 7850.

Thanks for all the fast replies but im thinking about going for a decent cooler to OC my gpu and cpu and then waiting to either buy the r9 280x or for alittle more the r9 290
Also what would be a good cooler for both my gpu and cpu that is not really expensive. And what would be more worth while the r9 280x or the r9 290! Thanks to all.

You use the cooler on the graphics card already to overclock that.

The Themis and Hyper 212 evo will be good enough to overclock the Fx 6300. There are loads of guides to overclocking online, you might even be able to find one for your exact cpu/mobo combination

What psu do you have? It takes a good psu to run an r9 290

Hmm, that PSU is OK but not great. The hold up capacitor is Jun-Fu which is not a good thing.

You have plenty of power to overclock your current CPU and processor but make sure your case has good airflow as the PSU is not one that tolerates heat well.
