Is it normal for a CPU (i5 3570k) to flutuate 1-5*C rapidly while idle?

My average idle temp is 29*C but it fluctuates between 27-33*C very rapidly, as in every 1-2 seconds the temperature chances by 1-2*C.

I reapplied the thermal paste and was only able to get a very very thin film, as I didn't realize how little I had left.

Under 100% load (Prime95) my temperature gets to 50*C and then plateaus. (h100i water cooler)
I'm just a worry wurt :(
Thanks!

yes, that is perfectly normal.

You should NOT be spreading your paste. The correct way to do it is to place a pea (or a bit smaller actually) sized dot on the center of the CPU and then install the cooler. It will spread itself. Your paste definitely has bubbles in it affecting your temp. My 3570k, for comparison, is overclocked to 4.5ghz and I have a WORSE cooler than the H100i and in prime 95 I don't see more than 50-54c.

Thanks for both your answers,

I have ordered new paste (Arctic Silver), and I have used the pea method previously. Bubbles would explain the rapid fluctuation I believe, I never really noticed my temperatures before I changed out the paste, so I was just worried if rapid fluctuation of 1-2*C was normal on a cpu when idle, it never just sits at a temperature for long.
