PSU going bad??? coil whine

Now this is a little weird and it just started the other day. I just started getting coil whine and it sounds like it is coming from my PSU. Now I do have a gtx 970 that has a little whine occasionally but it is quieter than this. Also it only happens if I am gaming but I don't even notice it any more. This however, sounds different and starts as soon as I power on the system before windows even boots. I have a 700w coolmaster that is going on 8 or 9 years old. Can a PSU just spontaneously start to coil whine?

Yes it can. Once you start pushing that thing to the limits it will start to whine. Over time it cant push out as much power efficiently. Get a decent PSU. Corsair, EVGA, ect. 750w Gold or better
