Okay so I just got my new gtx 980. I replaced it with my 780, computer started fine and booted up. Put in the disc, and started installing software. It asked for a restart, and now my computer turns on, but the monitor doesn't get signal and nothing actually boots. Tried taking it out and starting, same result. Tried putting in the old gpu, same result. Someone please help I have no idea what else to do and I'd rather not have to wait weeks to get a new one before I can use my computer again even though I doubt it'd still work.

Solution
I'd remove the 980 if you haven't already, reinstall the 780 that worked fine before. I would then unplug your PC, remove CMOS battery for awhile to reset your BIOS/UEFI. This will hopefully get you going again. Afterwards, if this gets you up and running again, I would download the newest BIOS version for your motherboard and update it. After this, I would then try installing the 980 again but install using the later drivers available and not the ones on the disc. Also, there was mention awhile back when the 980/970s came out, if you were using Displayport, you could get a blackscreen on startup. This was fixed in newer drivers.

Can you boot to safe mode? Can you boot to safe mode with networking (this will let you get to the internet). What software were you installing? If you can get to safe mode go to system restore and use the restore point created before your attempt at software installation.

The monitor won't turn on, I have no idea how to even get past that. I installer msi gaming app and set my card to run in OC mode that required the restart. Now it won't boot or give signal to the monitor

It all turns on fine, everything runs as normal but my mouse and keyboard won't turn on, or my monitor. I don't know what to do and yes after selecting overclock mode it restarted and now won't work. But I hadn't restarted prior, this was my first time turning it on with the 980 in there then the next restart didn't work. Now I'm stuck if someone can please help you'd make my life so much better right now

Okay so some time has passed, I attempted to get a new motherboard thinking I zapped the old one somehow with that restart. I went from an msi gaming 3 Mobo, to a msi gaming 5 Mobo. I also Got a Corsair hx 850i psu thinking that'd help control the voltage a lot better so it didn't get zapped. Upon rebuilding my computer, it started up nice. Re activated Windows, ran some games maxed out, then attempted to restart again. Same result. Now after all that hard work it won't turn back on again just like before. I need to work in 4 hours, so I'll need to sleep before messing with it some more. Id appreciate if anyone knew some fixes I could try when I get home. Removing the cmos battery was one I'll try, but any others would be appreciated. I left the computer unplugged hoping maybe that'll help by the time I turn it back on tomorrow. Thanks in advance, sorry for this being long.

Oh and if it helps to know, all my files were still there after getting the new motherboard. I just set it to boot on my ssd where Windows was installed, and it booted up to the point it last stopped working at. Now it's not working again so I highly doubt I zapped it. There has to be a fix if someone would please help. Thanks in advance guys
