So I'm in a debate on whether or not to pick the i7-4790K. Or, the i7-5820K.
The i7-5820K has 6 cores but only clocked at 3.3 Ghz.
The i7-4790K has 4 cores, but is clocked at 4.40 ghz.
Im using my pc for gaming and otherthings like video/music recording and editiing.
Which one would you suggest I get?

What GPU are you going to use with it? If it is a single GPU and you game on it more than you edit and render, I'd go for the 4790k, the two extra cores really won't give you a huge performance boost for the amount of extra money you have to spend on the CPU, motherboard and DDR4 RAM. The 4790k is the perfect balance for gaming and editing/rendering since it does come with 8 threads and those applications will take full advantage hyperthreading. If you weren't doing this kind of work, even an i5 would make sense, but you are.

If you are using 2 or more GPUs in SLI or just one for now and plan on more, the X99 platform is probably the better option since it has more PCIe lanes native (28 vs 16 on 1150). If you upgrade to the 5960x, the...

Either one will be great. I'd go with the i7-5820K if there were no budget considerations, or if the price difference wouldn't be able to be applied to another performance aspect of the PC - such as upgraded RAM, graphics, SSD, or motherboard.

If you upgrade to the 5960x, the number of native PCIe lanes goes up to 40. And if you are more into rendering and editing than gaming, it will probably be worth the extra cost. It also has a much better upgrade potential not to mention the newer DDR4.

the difference in price between a X99 platform and Z97 is pretty significant, since DDR4 is quite a bit more expensive than DDR3 (and DDR3 is not compatible with X99.

If those are the two options you're choosing between, my opinion is that you will see no practical difference between an i7-4790K and i7-5820K. The only reason to go X99 is for 3+ GPUs in a single system, but it doesn't sound like that's what you're doing.
