As the title says, tf2 constantly crashes when I try to play. I can play anywhere from 60-5 mins before the game crashes. When it does go, the screen freezes and the last sound gets played on loop until i close the window. I get the hl2.exe has stopped working before it all closes out. It was running fine about a month ago, but recently the crashes have really picked up. My drivers were just updated and I tried verifying the files with steam, but both made little or no impact. Running windows 7 home premium 64 bit on this hardware:

AMD Phenom 9550 at 2.2ghz
EVGA 750ti ftw
12gb DDR2 ram
Dont know the motherboard, using an HP desktop from about 7 years ago with a new graphics card to play some games on

I know there are other threads on this out there but none of those solutions have worked for me so why not start my own, any help is great

Solution
This happened to me a while back when I still played that game. What happened for me was that my graphics card was overheating to a point where it could damage my other components. So your problem could be similar.

On your steam library, there is a list of games on the left. Right=click on TF2, then select properties. click the local files tab, then click "verify integrity of game cache". After it runs the scan, if it tells you that any files failed to be validated, it will automatically re-download them. If not, you have a bigger problem.

It shouldn't be the temps because my graphics card never gets above 50 degrees and my CPU never gets above 45. Although my motherboard is showing a constant temp of 103 degrees Celsius, I doubt it gets that hot and is probably just a bad sensor. The only other thing that makes heat is the hard drive that came with the computer, which is a 500gb stock drive. Could something be wrong with the hard drive and how the game is loading off of it?

This happened to me too because your GPU or other components has been overheating
