Relatively high temperature after installing Thermalright True Spirit 120

Today I installed a new cooler THermalright True Spirit 120 for i7 930 2.8GHz. In most tests I can see that temperature is around 25C whilst mineis around 39C when processor is in idle.

I forced the processor to run in in 100% for significant time ( ~ 20 mins) by running Prime95 and the temperature did not exceeded 61C. Should I remount the heatsink or does it look fine to you? IT's my first time I actually did it :p The heatsink seems to stay solid and I have also applied the thermal paste provided by Thermalright.

Idle temperature is not important; do you realize your CPU is only as warm as your own body? Ambient temperature has to be taken into account and you didn't provide it. Hardware Secrets tested it with an i7-860 and idle temperature was 30°C at 16°C ambient; that's 14°C over ambient. Full load is what's important; 63°C while running Prime95 is excellent and there's nothing to worry about for an Intel CPU that throttles way over that temperature. My i5-4590 reaches over 80°C at full load (ambient 22°C) which is fine according to Intel Extreme Tuning Utility (20°C below the throttle temperature).

OK,

I have remount the cooler and applied Arctic Silver thermal paste instead of the one came with the cooler. I was carefull not to overdoze it. I tested the temperature again. In idle, the temperature is around 40C (varry between 38 - 41). When processor was 100% loaded, by means of Prime95 (http://www.mersenne.org/download/), the temperature riched its max 63C, after about 1 hour 45 mins. I did play World of Worcraft for about 15 mins on ultra settings and the temperature barely rised--only couple of degrees. I guess it is a graphic card that gets loaded.

I would be grateful for your comments on this.

Cheers!

I did not say there's an issue with GPU. I mentioned GPU only because I saw CPU temperature not being increased much when I run a highly deminding computer game. ANd I realised the reason for that probably was the GPU takes over all calculations and therefore CPU's temperature statys very similar.

All in all, it's not that I believe there's an issue. I've done it for first time and I simply looking for confirmation everything's OK. I've read this cooler is very good that's why I bought it. However, the reviewers state the temperature have been around 25C when they have tested this cooler. Mine is 39C. It's different. The only thing I would need, which I would really appreciate here, is whether this temp is too high or it's what I should expect and stop worrying. I performed additional test on 100% loaded CPU and I am happy it did not go over 70C. If this is not what other expect, e.g. because it's too high, I would like to know about it. Now, I hope I have explained the reason for this thread.

Cheer!

It's really helpful, GhislainG. My room temperature is ~ 22°C. So I guess it's 16°C (ish) over ambient. From what you've said evetything's all right.

Many thanks :)
