Here is the partlist: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/FordPrefect/saved/#view=ctRMnQ

As you can see under "Compatibility" it states that I may need to update the BIOS. Unfortunately, I don't really know what that means and I've tried searching for whether or not I need to without avail.
So basically: does an ASRock H81M-HDS need a BIOS update when paired with an Intel Pentium G3258?
If so: how do I do?

Thanks a lot :)

No, not for sure. If you recently bought the board from a big supplier like Newegg, it should be a late BIOS. My 'guess' is that it will be recognized. They don't usually have stock like that sit on their shelves for a long time.
Another point in your favor is that the G3258 is simply a Haswell "refresh" meaning the base processor should still be recognized even if not fully implementing the newer features. Try it in breadboard fashion to see if the CPU is recognized. If not, return the board for a refund.

The G3258K is a newer processor that just recently came out. if the MB was manufactured before the processor came out, it may not be recognized by the board's BIOS. That would mean you would have to install an older processor and use it to update the BIOS... which is a bit involved.

Alright, well I don't really have an older processor to use to update it at all... so do you know for sure whether or not the G3258 would work with the ASRock H81M-HDS that I have? I've already bought them both, so I don't really have another option at the moment... would suck if it didn't work.

Just a quick question: I've been looking around seeing that a lot of people have had to update their BIOS for it to work with the G3258, so I went to ASRock's BIOS download page for the H81M-HDS, and according to this (http://www.asrock.com/support/BIOSUI.asp?cat=BIOS8) from their website, I can just put it onto a USB, boot into the BIOS, and update? Would it be possible for me to do that without causing problems with the G3258 already in?
Thanks
