Going to get a new GPU, and was wondering if I should get one to crossfire my current or get a new single card

My current GPU is the AMD Radeon HD 7970, and I am unsure of whether I should upgrade with a new 280x for crossfire, or move on to a 290/290x or go to Nvidia for a 970.

Any advice?

gtx 970 all the way. it blows the other cards out of the water, and it needs a lot less power. It also wont heat your room. So later on you can watercool and overclock that bad boy out of the roof. people who have watercooled and OC the 970 have only reached its max voltage setting in the gpu driver/bios. So in short it overclocks like a beast. Don't worry about all the 3.5 vram controversy. its still the best card in that price range, and you wont run into the vram problem unless you have a good 3 monitor setup, or are 4k gaming. if you want the vram b/c you have a 3 monitor setup then go with the r9 290x. if your 4k gaming, and you can afford a 4k monitor, then stop talking about 970's or 290's b/c you should be able to afford a much...
