My system now always displays a code 51 ("Memory initialization error. Invalid memory type or incompatible memory speed") on the Mobo display (the RAM was on the "compatible" list Asus published for the Z87 Mobo, so should not be a compatibility issue). On frequent occasions, without warning, the screens go blank. All power is still on, the Mobo still displays code 51, but the monitors (dual Samsung 22" S22B310B) just display solid black, (although the power lights are still on). The only way to recover from this appears to be a re-boot. It will work just fine for a while (hours, even a few days), but it's only a matter of time before the screens will suddenly go black again, and you have to re-boot.
The system is the Asus Z87 Deluxe Dual Mobo, Intel Core i7 4770k CPU, Corsair 1200AX PSU, 32GB RAM G-Skill Sniper DDR3 2400 (4 x 8GB sticks), the Asus GTX770-DC2OC-4GD5 GPU, and a variety of HDD's (int. & ext.) / ODD / SSD (for OS and large programs), HP webcam, Canon Pixma MX922 printer. Also about a half-dozen fans typically keep the CPU & GPU temps under 40degC.
This system should not be experiencing problems like this! My prime suspect is the GPU, but am not sure if it is defective, or if some settings need to be re-set. The system is about a year old, and some components (including the GPU) are still under warranty.
I do see some discussion on the internet about this error code, but I don't see any mention of the monitor displays suddenly blacking out. I have been trying to get ahold of Asus Customer Support, but am about to give up for the moment, as I have been on hold now for about an hour and a half, with the statement that "a representative will be with (me) shortly". In the meantime, your input, comments, suggestions would be appreciated. Got to get this working properly, can not have a nice system like this doing something so seriously aggravating! Thanks!
