Hey all! I've recently scrounged up some money ($280) in order to upgrade my 3 year old PC, which currently has:

CPU: i3 2100
GPU: MSI Twin Frozr GTX 570 1280MB
Mobo: ASRock U3S3 H61 Motherboard
RAM: 2x4GB 1600 mhz Kingston RAM
HDD: 500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM
PSU: Rosewill Hive 550W Modular PSU
Case: Thermaltake V4 Black Edition

(Keep in mind with upgrade paths, I have a microcenter 2 minutes away for CPU + motherboard bundles)
Currently, I play mainly World of Warcraft (pretty hardcore as well, mainly 20 man raids) and League of Legends, but I am hoping to play a bit of GTA V when it comes out on PC as well. I only have $280 to spend, but I wish to get the most out of it. I was personally thinking of something along the lines of 4690k + motherboard bundle at microcenter, but I've also gotten suggestions saying to upgrade my GPU so that the system uses a lot less power and I get more VRAM for newer games. I'm not a complete PC whiz, but I can get by with the knowledge I know, which is why I'm coming here for good advice on what to upgrade to get the most performance in games!

Hrmmm... That does seem like a really good option, I'll definitely consider it, 960 seems pretty incredible considering its low power consumption and performance.

If you want my opinion... I wouldn't bother trying to upgrade the motherboard.. because with the budget you quoted... you wouldn't be able to get a really good CPU for it and you would be pushing it.

You could upgrade the CPU with another 1155 chip if you want better overall performance on your system.

What monitor are you using? You could consider upgrading that.

I would also consider getting an SSD. That would give you a huge performance boost. You could get a 250GB SSD and use your current one as the secondary/storage/archive drive and then get the CPU that Spooky2th suggested. Those two alone would be worth the upgrade.
