Hi everyone,
I'm in need of some help with the windows activation for a new ssd hard drive. Here's the full history:
1) Bough my Dell XPS L502X notebook with windows 7 Home premium OEM, back in november 2011
2) At 2012, upgraded windows 7 to windows 8 , then 8.1 when it came out
3) Today (2015) i bought a SSD 250 GB for this Notebook. Changed the HDD for the new SSD and installed the windows 8 on it (via USB boot)
4) Received a error when i tried to activate windows 8 saying it wasn't possible because it was a Clean Install and my key was for an upgrade.
Any thoughs on what should i do? Ask Microsoft for support? Ask Dell for support (although it has already expired) ?
My first thought was to do a clean format on the SSD, install Windows 7 via the ISO microsoft gives online, activate it, then try to upgrade to the windows 8/8.1. Is this correct?
However, what happens if i can't activate the windows 7 (my key is a OEM windows 7)?
