Hi all,

I am having an issue with my PC randomly turning off. There's no errors, BSOD's or anything of the sort. When I check the event logs the only information is from start up where it notices that it shutdown for an unknown reason. Its a similar experience to having a power cut. It just completely shuts off without warning. There does not seem to be any correlation to when its happening and what i am doing. Last week it happened while watching netflix, last night it happened while browsing the web, and upon restart it happened just after login. It doesn't seem to be caused by stress.

I am suspecting motherboard or power supply, however, i am unsure how to check? I have the possibility of borrowing a power supply tester, however, because of how intermittent it is, im worried at how useful it will be. I will borrow it anyway just to see.

edit: I just remembered some symptoms i've been experiencing. From the time my PC was built, it occasionally has an issue with turning on. You press the button and the fans start up as if its preparing to start but there no other noises and it never posts. Eventually you get some fast beeps. Turning it off and on again usually solves the issue. I can tell within the first second of so if this issue is going to happen as the fans spin fast as normal and i cannot hear any of the disks coming to life. I'm not sure if this is related but thought it best i mention it.

Any advice or help you can give would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,
Michael
