AMD FX6300 overclock boot up acting abnormal - Why does Turbo Mode cause this?

Hi,
Over weekend upgraded my boys gaming computer and now we have a problem during powering up. When I turn the computer on it starts (1sec), stops (2sec), starts, stops, then boots up. Sometimes it only starts and stops then boots. Once computer boots, it is fine and works with out problem.

The changes that took place is; I installed an EVO 212 cooler and manually adjusted bios to overclock CPU. As well installed the two Microsoft patches to unpark the cores in Windows 7 (64 bit). We had low FPS on Planet side 2 due to cpu bottle neck. After this and some other pointers on line to adjust Planet Side settings he was into constant 60 FPS.

Spec
MB GIGABYTE GA-970A-D3P AM3+ R
CPU - FX-6300 AMD
Corsair Vengeance 16GB at 1600MHZ
Sapphire R9 290 Video Card 4GB (reference)
PSU THERMALTAKE| TP-750P 750W RT
Intel Solid State HD (boot disk)
2nd hard drive 1TB (cant remember brand)
TL-WN851N Wireless-N PCI Adapter

Overclock settings. Frequency multiple adjusted to 22.0 in bios with voltage adjust up to 1.32 Volts (aprox recall from memory). All power saving options turned off in BIOS. Getting 4.43GHZ and keeping in mid 30 deg C.

Any ideas to what changes I did that caused this problem? Could it be a physical problem when I replaced cooler? Any support is much appreciated and thanks in advance.

.....update further down that I find Turbo in Bios is a problem, please read forward.

you probably messed up with your motherboard settings try reverting them and see if the boot problem solved otherwise the core parking patch should not have much impact but it can affect the boot and the most important thing is that you may have messed with fx 6300 overclocking is okay but core parking is not good. Microsoft has cores parked for safety measures do not unpark them

i recommend parking the cores again , overclock should not be the problem

Adsthebest, thanks for response. I will give it a shot to reset bios. Haven't done yet as kids are still gaming on pc.

Your comment about 'Microsoft core parking is for safety'. That is the first I have heard anything about safety. When I read up on the Microsoft site it stated it was efficiency reasons. It also states that once I did the Microsoft hotfix there is no way to repark the cores. Please elaborate as if its an issue that can damage the CPU then I am interested to fix. thanks

it is simple to fix the cores parking back to normal just uninstall the patch if that doesn' work reinstall windows

Hello and I had the same problem with my FX-6300. I overclocked it to 4.5ghz and my computer would not boot or startup normally.
The solution i figured out was the VID voltage that is the startup voltage of the cores. I raised my VID to same as my overclock voltage and it fixed the problem.
This may be the problem for you as well as the symptoms are identical to mine. Changing my startup voltages fixed the problem. Hope this helps:)

what is the amount of voltage you applied?

Your overclock is unstable plain and simple. Did you raise the vcore and stress test it with Prime95 and IBT? As others have said revert back to Optimized Defaults and that will at least let you know it was a faulty overclock. Once you get it to boot and it works fines rules out your cpu mounting being the problem.

Hey, I used a VID voltage of 1.31 volts and core voltage was 1.31 also. Remember every cpu is different so my values may not work but atleast you can give It a try. :)

Update... I reset the bios to factory default and backed into my overclock settings. Again I land with Vcore set at 1.34Volts with multiple on CPU at 22 giving 4.42GHz. The problem was the Turbo Mode, when set to off, then I got the problem described at my first post.

Gigabyte UEFI Bios
- Adv CPU Core Features
-Core Performance Boost (Turbo Mode) = disable
-- when disable the CFB ratio greys out
-- when disable on reboot I get the problem of the computer start, stop, start, then boot.

So what am I doing wrong here? As I read somewhere before that Turbo should be disable. I did dial up the Vcore to 1.38V and still same problem when Turbo off. Any ideas or just forget it and move on?

About the VID, I am honestly not sure what this is as I can not find it in my Gigabyte UEFI BIOS.

Also related to another comment on core parking. I have seen absolutely no where that core unparking is a safety issue for your CPU. Microsoft states it is only for efficiency gains as to why they park cores.

As for stability, even with the other problems the computer gamed for two days constant on Titan Fall and Planet Side 2 without a blip. So I think when in Windows its stable. Never the less, like to know what is going on.

I had same problem, just now. Doing my first OC on FX6300 and Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3. It felt stable, but was having the starts/stops right at the beginning of the boot. I reset to defaults, the stuttering went away. I'm back at 4110 MHz and 1.38xx Vcore - and I'm not experiencing it. Still not sure exactly what was causing the stuttering.
