CPU Core Temperatures VERY different

Hello!

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 x2 5000+

I recently started to use Hardware-info to monitor my tower, and for some reason core #1 is always around 15 degrees hotter than core #0, even when idle. From what I have read a minor difference is normal, but I haven't found anybody with this big of one.

So far I have:
-Applied new thermal paste (properly; looked it up to make sure)
-Cleaned heat-sink and case fans (same time as paste)
-Used compressed air on interior of case and managed get a decent blast UNDER the motherboard too, just in case that affected the sensor any.

Only thing I can think of is a new CPU fan; but although I am planning on getting one anyway, I would still like to figure out the reason for the difference.

it might be that that particular core is fractionlally further away from the heatspreader (the metal bit you can see that you put the thermal paste on) or it could be that the actual chip is offset under the heatspreader and this effects how much heat the heat sink can take away. try rotating the HSF by 90 degrees, it might make the overall temp worse, but the difference might decrease.

The way the fan latches to its mount means I can only turn it 180 degrees. Although I tried shifting it around just to be sure. it didn't make any difference in the temperatures.

Update: So I got bored and decided to play Medieval 2 Total War (CPU hog that it is). I took the side panel off my case and stuck a big house fan blowing directly into it on high. Then I cleared the min and max columns in Hardware Info before launching. Played one turn and alt-tab'd out to check. Despite assigning the process to core 0 (the cooler of the two) Core 1 had reached 64.5 degrees Celsius while Core 0 had reached 56. Could it actually be running cool but the sensors be messed up?

Sorry for double post, but took awhile last time for me to see my post update. Anyway I have narrowed down the reason to either of the following. #1-I require a new heatsink+fan combo (reasons being that it either doesn't make full contact or is providing inadequate cooling). Or #2-It is the sensor that is wrong (it is a Brisbane, and my research has mentioned they may run 20 degrees or so cooler than listed temperature, so it's possible.)
