Hi everyone,
I am putting together a PC build, and have two choices for the power supply: EVGA G2 750W (http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-SuperNOVA-80PLUS-Certified-220-G2-0750-XR/dp/B00IKDETOW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1424657780&sr=8-1&keywords=evga+g2+750) or EVGA G2 850W (http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-SuperNOVA-80PLUS-Certified-220-G2-0850-XR/dp/B00IKDETOC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1424657658&sr=8-1&keywords=evga+g2+850+watt). AFAIK, they are exactly the same apart from their wattage, but the 850 Watt one is actually $1 cheaper than the $750 Watt one. My CPU is the i5-4690K and I have not decided on the GPU yet (most likely GTX 970, R9 290X, or I'll wait for the R9 3XX series). I was wondering if having a higher rated power supply could in any way be harmful if my system is nowhere near utilizing all of its power. Would it be safe to just get the 850W one, or would there be stability/longevity issues? BTW, I'm not really concerned with electricity draw, although I know it will be a little higher with the 850W variant.
Thanks,
Filip
