I have had 2 laptop die from overheating so I am determined to get a good cooling mat for my new gaming laptop. I have a Cooler Master X2 with my current laptop which does help but my laptop is only a peformance laptop and I would like something better for my gaming laptop if possible.

I am looking at the cooler master XL which is avalible from a 3rd party seller on amazon for £29.99 but I can't find any reviews on it? Or other distributors? I am wondering if cooler master just pulled it for a design fault? It is even cheaper than the cooler master x3.

The x3 seems over priced in this country and is only from a 3rd party Amazon seller (if it does break 3 months down the line I want to be able to replace it).

AVANTEK 17'' Laptop Notebook Cooling Pad Chill is the other one I have looked at, although my laptop is only 15.6. It is a much better price though and has amazon prime. I find it odd it can lie flat.

I know this seems a lot of fuss but its so hard to get a decent one. I want to keep my new laptop as cool as possible this time. It only has to sit on a desk. I can't get a desktop as I am moving too much ATM.

i wont suggest you a model but when you searching for cooling pad make sure to have powerful fan (duh) and the fan should actually have free space on the back so the air can flow. Im currently using E-table and even if it was alot cheaper than other pads and looked like it wont do much my laptop is staying cool all the time when i play games (ofc i regularly blow the dust with gas duster)

Thx, the cooler master XL seems to have the most powerful fan and the most air space. The AVANTEK has two fans that run at the same rpm but are smaller. This means they have a gap in the middle though and there is less space underneath. I would be happy to get the XL, I just find it odd that despite being on the manufacturers website it does not seem to be sold anywhere else (so no reviews, including from review sites). It also seems to be cheaper than the older model :/. I have no idea if it will last, how good it really is, or if I cant return it if it breaks in three months. £30 is still a lot, and this will be my 4th fan...

hehe, dont worry, luckily I know how to properly dismantle and clean a laptop fan, and reapply thermal paste. My last two laptops had a design fault that meant the case was not sufficient to cool the graphics card (same brand/very similar model). After complaints Samsung eventually seemed to stop selling the model with a dedicated card (early optimus setup). After that I just dont think it hurts to back up the case fans with a bit of extra help ^_^.
