This sort of visual gameplay is what im looking to achieve, and im wondering how far im off it.

Specs;

Gfx card: Gigabyte HD 7970
CPU: Fx-8350 (black? No idea if that makes a difference)
Cooler: Hyper 212 Evo
Mobo: Sabertooth 990fx.
Power Sup: Antec 750W

More info, i live in australia so the rooms ambient temperature can be rather hot.

I also dont have a 120hz screen, this intends to be one of the purchases I make to help achieve this sort of gameplay. (Any advice as to the best bang for your buck 120hz monitor is also appreciated)

Right now aside from the glaring issue of the lack of a 120hz screen the other big issue I feel like im facing is temperature and just plain wether the FX-8350 can deliver that sort of FPS. (Or wether even my card can?)

Currently my 8350 is throttling under any heavy gameplay, battlefield instantly boots it over 62C and it starts to take its toll so im looking at better cooling options? Or if i need a whole new processor/cooler completely?

I understand that the rigs that these sort of players are running would be insane compared to mine, but from my understanding my card/CPU is not a bad combo. Aside from the glaring screen/heat issues, am I really a whole new set of parts off?

Or would simply upgrading my cooling/screen be enough?

Edit: If you need anymore info just ask.

Id like to not go over 1k AUD if im being honest.

But i can stretch both ways, in reality I really really just want help in understanding how far off I am to similar looking fluidity.

Knowing that the rig of the video I provided is probably $3000+ I would be more then happy to settle for close to/less performance.

So mainly im looking to move onto a 120hz screen and get as much as i can out of it.

I'm not really sure what to suggest tbh.

The FX do run hot. You've already got an aftermarket cooler but still getting pretty high temperatures. Perhaps it's time to try one of corsairs water cooling options?

Converting to an intel build would be helpful (they run cooler) but you won't see a huge difference in gaming performance by changing the CPU.

You're GPU is pretty hefty already - i take it you're running 8gb's of ram as well?

If you are adamant you want more performance then all i can suggest is start upgrading, convert to intel and get a 980.

Ehh, the 212 evo is alright for a cheap cooler but it can't handle a heavily OCd 8350 in a country like oz

The 7970 is a great card, but not 120fps great

I'd suggest for cooling get either the Noctua DH-14 or DH-15 combined with 3-4 case fans to keep the air moving in the case

You have a great rig for 1080p, 60fps but for any more than that you're likely looking at cpu and gpu upgrade, so basically a new rig

My problem was he's not going to see a significant boost in visual performance. Yes he'll get awesome FPS at max settings, maybe even push it to 4k if he went the right way. But he'll be spending a lot for a 'meh' increase.

I think it's just because i'm a 'use the computer till last legs, then upgrade to max settings - rinse and repeat' type of guy,
