Fast video editing with multiple hard drives running through USB 3.0 Hub?

So the main thing I use my computer for is video editing.

I want to set my edit station up so that I've got my USB 3.0 hard drives connected via a powered USB 3.0 hub.

My question is whether or not I'll still be able to get strong enough read/ write speeds if going via a USB hub, or if it will significantly bottleneck my system.

For reference I'm using a 2012 Macbook Pro.

Hello... running USB DATA drives are slow.

Yea,

You won't be happy editing off USBs... Unless you have like an SSD USB, but even then, it is still slow

Hello... if you have firewire or TB on that Mac... that will give you the best performance in a external.

Will it really be that much better using a thunderbolt hard drive?

Also is there a way that I can still have an external monitor plugged in without having to spend a ton of money on a thunderbolt splitter?

Also I thought FireWire was slower than USB 3.0. Why would I be better using this than USB?

Hello... Experience... firewire is a hostless communication mode... when you start to copy and read large files you will have fustrating speed problems and lockups.
