PC shuts off instantly (randomly) when gaming.

I recently upgraded my system with an MSI GTX 970.
I had no issues at all running overclocks on the card and my CPU.
I re-installed Windows 8.1 and that's when all my issues began (coincidence?)

The problem is that my system turns off (at complete random intervals) when I attempt to launch a game or when I have been playing a game for a bit. The weird thing is that it never always happens. It just happens randomly, sometimes it won't happen all day (although lately it's multiple times a day).

Now;
- I made sure it wasn't my overclocks. I am running decent overclocks on my GTX 970 and my FX-8350. I put them both back on stock and I still get the same issue. (P.S. I made sure both are getting adequate power to run)
- I am sure it's not an overheating issue. I have an H100i and excellent airflow in my case. Temps on HWMonitor never exceed 50C for my CPU and 70C for my GPU. The only thing that feels hot in my case are the north/south bridges (but that's normal I suppose).
- I have no way to test the PSU. It is a Corsair CX750. It is about 3 years old. This might be the culprit but wouldn't make sense because overclock or not it still ends up crashing.
- I tried to reseat my RAM and it's working 'SO FAR' which could also be a culprit.
- Motherboard looks fine, everything works like it should. Nothing is burned or busted.

I feel like this has to do with my PSU. I tried using different power sources but i have not tried changing the power cable (hey you never know). I'm surprised because it's Corsair and should be fine, but maybe after 3 years the thing would end up losing power etc.

Could either be mobo/ram/PSU though.

Any thoughts?

Solution
Power supply or thermal problems are the typical causes.

The cx series have poor capacitors in them and since you said your PSU is now 3 years old this is the likely culprit
