Can't boot from CD/DVD in AHCI

Hi there, just made an account to post this.

I recently bought an SSD (for OS and games) and a 2tb HDD. I want to do a complete fresh install of Win7 on my SSD. In preparation, I unplugged my current HDD, went into BIOS to enable AHCI as it is on IDE for my current install, and force the CD/DVD drive to boot first. However, it wouldn't boot, it would just hang for a few mins and eventually time out.

My Motherboard is a Foxconn Flaming Blade GTi (not the best, I know) and my CD/DVD drive model is DH16A1L.

I apologise if this is in the wrong forum section. Thanks in advance.

I don't know how the BIOS/UEFI from that mobo is, if it's UEFI you should have two options on how to boot from the DVD drive, make sure that when selecting the DVD drive as the first boot device is not set as "UEFI: DVD drive", choose the other option (can't remember how it is exactly).

I don't have such an option in the BIOS. When choosing the boot priority, it's a list like: Hard disk, CD-ROM, Removeable etc.

I see, another possibility is that either your Windows DVD is scratched, or that the optical drive is faulty, hence the hang out, its trying to read the disk but failing to do so due to any of the possibilities mentioned above.

Another possible issue could be a faulty SATA cable, try using another one with the optical drive and see if it works.
