Hi,

Soon I would like to purchase a brand new SSD so that I can put my OS (Windows 8.1) and some other games and programs I regularly use onto from my HDD that they are on currently.

Can anyone tell me how I can safely transfer these items onto my SSD when I get it so that I can make the most from my Solid State Drive.

I do not know much about transferring files over to a different drive so it would help if you could explain this to me.

You have two routes:

The ideal route for no hassles in the future is a full reinstall.
Completely reinstall windows and your programs onto the SSD and then you can copy your files from the old HDD once finished

You can clone the drive using a disk cloning software. Sometimes this works just fine, sometimes it does not.

Either way you will need to switch BIOS to AHCI and if you are going to clone the disk you need to change a registry key in windows before you change the bios to ahci
