Is my motherboard compatible with i5 4690k or 4460?

Manufacture is Dell
Model is 088DT1

Chipset intel haswell
southbridge H81
LPCIO ITE IT8772

Yes it is both are using LGA 1150 Socket from intel.

are you saying its better to stick with the 4460?

an how easy are updating bios?

Sticking with the 4460 would be a better option since ''k'' CPU's are better to use with Z87 & Z97 chipsets.

4690k and 4460 are both compatible with this chipset.

That is correct.

Dell codes the BIOS which determines the CPU support.

It might work -- it might not. That's why you need to ask Dell.

I feel almost certain a 'K' is of no use to you. It might be supported, but it is highly unlikely you would be able to OC it.
