Hello,

After months of trying to chase down a hardware issue, the ONLY items left to completely replace on my PC are the motherboard and processor, so I'm just gonna do it.

I'm kinda a nitwit when it comes to keeping up with things, and would really appreciate a solid recommendation here. It's a multi purpose PC that will be used for business tasks mostly which include video editing, photoshop, and your standard office stuff.

I do like to play the occasional latest hot PC game though too...

Here's a list of all my hardware. EVERYTHING is brand new except for the MB and Chip which will be replaced with your good recommendation.

* Gigabyte Motherboard EX58-UD5
* Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield Quad-Core 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Processor BX80601920
* EVGA GeForce GTX 750 2GB FTW with EVGA ACX Cooling
* EVGA 850 WATT Power Supply
* G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 24GB (6 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

* COOLER MASTER RC-690-KKN1-GP Black SECC/ ABS ATX Mid Tower Computer Case -

* SAMSUNG SSD 840 EVO 500GB
* 3 other Western Digital hard drives for more space

That's it I believe...

So I'm just looking to get a new Gigabyte Motherboard and processor, but I have no idea what to pick. I guess something mid range in price that will work with everything else I have.

Thanks a bunch for any help, I'm clueless, so many options... :)

Awe crap! :)

I have the processor on the board, and was excited to get started on building tonight, and the damn thing only has FOUR memory ports for my 6 ripjaw 4 gig chips.

Dammit.

My bad for not checking... well... I guess I gotta buy new memory now too. :)

Any suggestions? 32 gigs I guess.

Dammit!

All of the Z77 / Z87 / Z97 mobos have 4 memory dimms. It's been like this for a while now. If you do lots of video editing, video rendering, photoshop, etc. Than yes, get a 32GB kit. If you don't do that much editing then 16GB should do it.

Hey Vici0us...ok I'm getting this memory:

...and I might as well get a new case...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119197

....

look good?

Also...1 final question...

I have enough stuff left over to piece together a system for my wife...

Is there a comparable Gigabyte motherboard on the market to the old EX58, that has 6 dim slots so I can use all my memory? And a comparable processor to go with it to this one: Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield Quad-Core 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Processor BX80601920

?

Just looking to pick up a MB and processor for cheap so I can piece together another build.

THanks!

That looks good. As far as that mobo look around eBay or Amazon. You'll find a used one, maybe a new one.
