I am complete novice at computer upgrades - need to speed up my computer to run all Adobe products, AVS4You video software, surf multiple sites, currently my computer is taking sometimes ten minutes to load a file or program.

I am sure i need more ram but what type and how much and would the motherboard cope? or would i need to upgrade that too as well as the Processor?

My computer information according to Cpu-z

First I recommend you read http://downloads.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_dell_precision_workstation/precision-t7500_Service%20Manual_en-us.pdf -- The Dell Service manual.

Since you only have one CPU socket populated you might want to look at adding either 6 or 12 GB of RAM. You want to buy 3 more DIMMs, all the same size for optimum performance. Look at PDF page 16 for the memory configs that are supported by your machine. You may end up not using some of the memory DIMMs you currently have installed. My recommendation would be to get 3 new 4GB DIMMs for 12 GB and put them in slots 1, 2, 3. Make sure that works. You could then try adding the 3 1GB DIMMs you have into slots 4,5,6. The manual doesn't...

The manual doesn't show that as a supported config, but it is worth a shot.
